How to Shampoo your hair 101

Most people think they know how to clean their hair. . I have so many people ask me “Why is my hair so greasy the day after I was my hair?” the answer is simple. When they “washed their hair” they didn’t actually clean it! Let me explain and it will change how you shampoo your hair.

This isn’t telling you not to shower, lets make this clear! this is strictly for hair, you can still shower but don’t feel the need to have to shampoo your hair. Lots of my clients I find over shampoo and it creates greasy, buildup on the roots and damaged dry brittle ends. So lets break it down.

If you are finding your hair is greasy after the shower or the next day then you haven’t been cleaning your hair properly.. We always tend to think its our shampoo, so we buy expensive shampoos and then wonder why they don’t work as well as when you went to the hair salon.

We need to take into account, your body’s natural cycle and how much oil we are producing/ sweating we are doing. If we are on medication this can also alter this. We are going to see how often we are already shampooing our hair, If we are using any products and so forth.

Step One: We need to change our hair washing cycle. If you are shampooing your hair EVERYDAY, we want to at least change it to every 3-4 days. Our scalps need to get to the change so at first your might feel like your hair is greasier but it wont last long.

Step Two: Find a good shampoo and Conditioner. We want to make sure we aren’t using anything crazy that is harsh and can strip away our color ( if you have color) and we want to find a really great nourishing conditioner. If you have thick hair you will want a heavier conditioner or will need to use more. If you have finer hair you will only want a thinner conditioner or a less amount.

Step Three: When is comes to shampooing you will want to shampoo your hair ATLEAST 2 times if not more. Rule of thumb if you 2 shampoos 2days of clean hair , 4 shampoos and you’ll get 4 days of clean hair. You get the idea. You only need a Lonnie to toonie size amount of shampoo each time. the first shampoo is quick and we always ONLY want to focus the root area. the second- fourth time you will want to leather it, then rinse. once your hair is now cleaned. you will ONLY do CONDITIONER at your mids to ends for a few minutes and let it moisturize your hair again.

Tip One : only use light products on your root areas and heavier products throughout your mids and ends.

Tip Two: always Use a heat protectant even before a blow-dry and brush it through your hair with a wet brush.

Tip Three: in-between shampooing the day before your shampoo day use a dry shampoo at night, brush it though and the next day you’ll have “wearable hair”

Tip Four: Do a hair mask one a month for soft, healthy hair

If you extend you shampoo days, and use these tips it will : save you money, less time washing your hair, and save your hair health.

If your not finding your hair get greasy within a couple days, your shampooing routine is fine. Remember everyone is different so playing around until you find your right routine will take some time. Once you find it though, you’ll never go back !
